Indemnities provided for contracts signed or work begun in 2014

Buildings with contracts signed or work begun on December 31, 2014, or before are registered with the administrator La Garantie Abritat inc. or Qualité Habitation.

Those buildings have a maximum total coverage amount of $260,000 for all of the coverage. Here are 4 categories of coverage and the maximum amount of indemnity for each of them:

Partial payments

Partial payments are protected up to a maximum of $39,000.

Expenses

Expenses incurred for relocation, moving, and storage of your property can be reimbursed to you when you provide supporting documentation, on the condition that there is no unjustified profit on your part. The maximum allowed is $5,500 for:

  • reimbursement of the reasonable, actual expenses incurred for moving and storage
  • reimbursement of the reasonable, actual expenses incurred for relocation, including room (accommodations) and board (food). Consult the table below to know the maximum daily amount that cannot be exceeded according to the number of people involved.

Completion of work and repair

Consult the following tables to know the amounts allocated for the completion of work and the repair of defects and poor workmanship.

For a detached, semi-detached, or row-type single-family home: amounts allocated according to building type

House The amount indicated in the contract up to a maximum of $260,000
Building held in divided co-ownership (e.g., condo) The amount indicated in the contract, up to a maximum of $260,000, without exceeding $2,600,000 for all the units included in the project
For a multi-family building (duplex to quintuplex): amounts allocated according to building type

House The lesser of the following amounts:
  • the amount indicated in the contract
  • an amount equal to $130,000 multiplied by the number of units in the building, without exceeding $1,900,000 for the entire building
Building held in divided co-ownership (e.g., condo) The lesser of the following amounts:
  • the total of the purchase price of the private portions included in the building or the amount indicated in the contract
  • an amount equal to $130,000 multiplied by the number of units in the building, without exceeding $2,600,000

Water supply

Concerning the obligation of ensuring the water supply, in quantity as much as quality, consult the table below to know the maximum amounts allocated for the damages you sustained.

Be aware! If you sign a job contract, make sure it includes the obligation concerning the water supply. 

Maximum coverage: $260,000 in total

The coverage limit applies to all of the coverage. It means, for instance, that you cannot claim $260,000 for completion of the work and $260,000 for the water supply!
