Guarantee Plan
For New Residential Buildings
Before you buy or build a new residence, whether it’s a house or a condo, make sure the contractor you want to work with has a general contractor's licence (with licence subclass 1.1.1 or 1.1.2) by consulting the Régie du bâtiment du Québec’s (RBQ) Licence holders' repertory.
If your contractor holds a general contractor’s licence (1.1.1 or 1.1.2), they are necessarily accredited by the RBQ's authorized guarantee administrator. This ensures that you are automatically and legally covered by the Guarantee Plan for New Residential Buildings of the RBQ.
If you want something done right, do it yourself? Not necessarily.
In case of an autoconstruction, meaning you build your own home on a piece of land that you already own and act as project manager without doing business with an accredited contractor, you will not be covered by the Guarantee Plan. Think carefully before doing so!
